The Andromeda Galaxy, Messier catalogue designation number "M-31", is our nearest galactic neighbour in the universe. Jt is 2.5 million light years away from earth and is the furthest deep sky object visible to the naked eye. It can be seen as a dim, fuzzy white patch in dark sky locations and with a quality telescope it appears larger than the full moon (but not as bright).
