This is the famous "Devils Den" battle site of the Gettysburg conflict. It was here, on the left flank of the Union defence commanded by General Meade held the ground known as "Little Round Top" and the Confederate push to take the hill was repulsed. The confederate attackers lay dead and wounded in the area directly to front centre of this image.
