I have only ever submitted one photograph to an astronomy magazine and to my pleasant surprise it was published in "Astronomy Magazine". It was an image I had taken from the summit of Haleakala on the island of Maui in Hawaii. As scores of other tourists do most days of the year I drove up the mountainside to witness the sun rise from the east over the extinct volcanic crater. Given the surrounding scenery it is a very beautiful event and offers the photographer an opportunity to capture a very coveted sunrise image.
