We were quickly dropped off on the western shore of the Mackenzie River near the opening in the bush to the start of the Canol Heritage Trail in the Northwest Territories of Canada. With not so much "ado" Jim Pope turned his boat around and sped off, leaving us to travel westward for the next 20 or so days.
