This is the remnant of the Franz Josef glacier on the south island of New Zealand. I write the "remnants" of the glacier as I was told by many people that the glacier used to appear well down into the valley only as recently as twenty years ago and it has receded considerably in those twenty years. It is still a very beautiful site to see and well worth the hike along the Roberts Point Track.
