At every camp on our climb of Denali, Alaska, the highest mountain in North America, there was a "sharps" location. It was where we placed all of our crampons, ice axes and other "sharp" things to keep them away from the very necessary and more important very vulnerable tents. If any of the "sharps" were to pierce and/or rip a tent, that would be a disaster for those using that tent. This rule of storing "sharps" away from the tents was strictly adhered to.
