The Aurora Borealis over Kelowna British Columbia
Our sun goes through an eleven year cycle of activity wherein it ebbs and peaks in sunspot activity. Sunspots create "coronal mass ejections" of plasma that travel away from the sun and they occasionally pass by the earth. When they do they interact with Earth's magnetic field and they ionize atoms of Oxygen and Nitrogen in the air creating vibrant hues of red, blue and green. 2024 was a year of peak solar activity for our sun and on October 10th the Aurora Borealis was incredibly intense all around the world.
